Very memorable and artful thriller film (by reenst)
I didn't know what to expect from this film as I didn't see any trailer or any promotional stuff . The beginning of the movie was slow but got interesting when came along. You could tell something was going to happenThe story starts easy, but as it moves on, peculiar things start to happen. This movie keeps you guessing in such a way, you are riveted to your seat, hoping for a quick resolution to the terror. Although the story is very simplistic and nothing original, the film still manages to grab the viewer. It has flawless lighting and camera work, great acting and a truly <more>
disturbing psychological intensity. The violence is extremely brutal and unrelenting. The bloody realism may cause some viewers to turn their head. The film becomes more insane from this point on turning into a endless pursuit of cat and mouse. Some people may complain that the film contains certain plot holes. I felt that by director leaving certain things unexplained until the very end, it added to the intensity. Very suspenseful and horrifyingTrespass truly is a Love-Hate Movie. It's a ground breaking, brave, stunning, brutal & moving piece of work that is guaranteed to divide audiences everywhere , the audience reaction ranged from 'loved it' to 'hated it' to few people actually going outside of the cinema .For me it was a great work, and i absolutely loved it but I don't believe it's a movie that anybody will truly 'enjoy'
one of Schumacher's finest movies (by PaPeRbOy811)
Trespass preys on our deepest fears of home invasions . Schumacher doesn't want to make us feel better about these things. In this Movie he is hyper aware of his audience and their expectations for such a film. And so "Trespass" is as much about torturing the audience as the characters. The film begins so innocently. The couple Cage & Kidman arrive at their beautiful very upper class house after a social evening gathering . Sarah hears a knock on the door and she meets Ben Mendelsohn & a horrific vision of home invasion starts The Kidnappers hold the family hostage <more>
for One evening. Violence is rarely threatened, as their insincere faux politeness clearly masks their hidden agenda of torture and humiliation when the situation gets out of control . It will take Sarah's strength of will to find her way out of the situation and save her " daughter " .Trespass is one of Schumacher's finest movies, The performances are outstanding across the board. The direction and writing are masterful ..The title of the movies suggests a Thriller with a couple of twists , however audiences are exposed to disturbing , sick , survival ride.It could easily ruin your day , clearly obvious from people's reactions after leaving the screening
Some of the other reviews on this movie are quite odd, this was an excellent and entertaining movie. Very well made, great acting and VERY entertaining. It seems that most of the reviews on IMDb are either by those that are involved in ultra low budget trash films that vote the movies up so people will watch them or by whiny people that watch movies in genres they do not line then they post up complaining they did not like the movie. How odd, that would be like me hating peanut butter but eating it every day and then complaining how much I hate peanut butter. This movie is entertaining and a <more>
thriller, a movie is to be watched for entertainment and that is what this one has done. Entertained me!
Trespass is an exercise in subtlety, I know not everyone agrees about taking away your own meaning from a book or a movie. But when I watch a movie I can't help but to examine things closely and ask why? Why did she say that? Why was he watching that person? That's why I got so much more than a run-of-the-mill home invasion story, I took away more of an examination of each characters' motives and psyche. I've talked with friends about what we think we would do if someone broke in to our house plenty of times. My roommate says he would shoot without hesitation and never feel bad <more>
about it, after all you are defending yourself and your home. But who really knows what you would do in that situation? Would you stand firm, or freak out when people bust into your home with guns? This movie is about two separate groups in desperate situations, sure there's violence, masterful camera and lighting work, but I just love the way the movie puts every character in a situation that will expose them to the core. There's plenty of plot threads to keep you wondering what exactly you're witnessing until the end.
Don't know why this was put into the rubbish bin by people. Sure, it is no masterpiece, and nothing original, but movies are supposed to entertain and it does exactly that. I watched this with my missus when our first choice of a film did not work. but glad to see it instead.Almost all takes place in one location, but delivers. Do not get disheartened by the low ratings and give a chance when in mood. you won't be disappointed.Normally not keen on mr Cage, but he is rather superb here. Cannot decide whether the lady was really nicole kidman, or someone else, though. She looked very <more>
This movie really blew me away. It's been a very long time since I've seen Nicolas Cage put his name to anything noteworthy, but he shows that old charm and finesse that he buried for the last decade or so barring Adaptation, which was his finest work imo with "Trespass". This is one of those movies where everyone has a role to play, and each does it almost perfectly--my only caveat was the daughter, whose token portrayal of rebellious youth was not that good. Nicole Kidman does a great job as the housewife who feels unappreciated yet supportive when the going gets tough, <more>
and the supporting actors who stage the robbery Cam Gigandet, et al were scripted perfectly. The props, costumes, setting, and cinematography were all fairly top-notch. I can't say enough good things about this movie. Way to go Schumacher, and way to go Nic Cage! Thanks for finally picking an awesome script, and knocking it out of the park. :
First of all, this is not your typical hostage movie. It is very well directed and acted. This is certainly not a big budget movie but who cares about the budget if the movie has enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the screen. Nicole Kidman was amazing in this. She gave a strong performance in this one. Nicholage Cage's performance was a bit dull at times compared to the others but certainly not a bad performance. I was absolutely surprised to see the low ratings of this movie. It is well acted, well directed and above all the plot keeps twisting and turning until the end...I <more>
recommend it to all...Watch it...You will not be disappointed.
Cage and Kidman play two A-list stars from 1999, who star as husband and wife living the life of riley in a groovy house with everything they could ever need. They have the car, the house, the tearaway daughter, but they are unhappy, which is evident as Cage would rather speak on the I-Phone, than spend some time with the alluring Kidman.Sadly about twenty minutes into the film, thieves break in and demand the diamonds that have been being shown in flashbacks and conversations since the film began. But Cage being Cage, starts off his spiel and refuses to give the intruders what they want. So <more>
begins a tense standoff between the family and the intruders. But there are a few twists and turns along the way, as the one from Twilight may or may not be having an affair with Kidman. This film is good, but it's about twelve years too late. It should have been released between Snake Eyes and Eyes Wide Shut and should have been called 'Eye Know' or something. The one thing I cannot understand though is all the hate for the film. People for some reason don't like Cage or Schumacher, and they have made some dogs, but that doesn't mean every film they make should be dismissed. It's not original, but it's tense and has some very good performances from the small cast. The cinematography is fascinating and really gives the film a claustrophobic edge, and the house is stunning to look at.The only weak part to this movie is the woman in the gang. She does nothing but take drugs and try on Kidmans clothes, before getting involved in a crash, it's a waste of a character and a waste of screen time. There are a few twists in the film which makes the final third more interesting and satisfying. It can be very violent in places and Cage isn't the usual 'Cage' you see in his other movies.Plus it features Cage calling someone a 'Sh!£hole' which here in England is slang for an untidy room.If you yearn for a thriller from the nineties, this is for you.
Very enjoyable home invasion flick (by davispittman)
First of all I'd like to talk about the casting, Nicole Kidman and Nicholas Cage were perfect in this film, they fit their roles really well. Also Cam Gigangent really did well in his role too. Also the girl that played Nicole Kidman's and Nicholas Cage's daughter was very good, and displayed some real talent. There might have been a few moments or Nicholas Cage might've over acted a bit, but those moments were very brief and rare, so they were overlooked easily. Joel Schumacher is one of my favorite directors, and once again he has impressed me with a great film. This movie <more>
has great action sequences, plot twists, and very intense suspenseful moments! Even the dialogue was pretty good, I didn't really enjoy the constant profanity, I thought the film could've toned that factor down, but other than that I enjoyed it. If you enjoy a good suspenseful home invasion flick I think this is the one for you! 8/10
