Not the Best, But Still Pretty Good (by dhardman04)
Let me start off by saying: I thought PA was stupid, PA2 was too funny to be good and PA3 was actually a decent movie for the series. Also, I was at a midnight premiere with 359 other college students and I knew it would be like the audience promo's where everyone is scared and jumping. That being said, I thought this movie had a BETTER mix of horror and comedy, unlike the second one. The atmosphere of the huge audience made a big difference in my reception of the film because I became a part of them. Normally I just sit there and laugh at everyone getting scared. But I would start <more>
screaming and cheering along with them this time. Plot: 5 years after the events of PA2, Katie and Hunter now Robbie? have moved across the street from a seemingly normal family and weird things start happening. Yeah, that's the plot that was given to us. This made me think, "Wow, random much?" But you can't not watch the movie because it does all make sense. Further plot details: Katie gave Hunter up for adoption who knows when? and he is adopted by the family across the street Alex's family and for 5 years, she waits for him to grow up and then moves across the street to prepare the ritual. Then, Robbie not Hunter and is most likely possessed himself introduces the ceremony and Toby to Hunter and Hunter now Wyatt begins acting weird. While all of this is happening, Alex begins to notice weird things happening since Robbie and Katie moved in. With the help of her boyfriend, they set up laptop's around the house to catch anything suspicious.Soon after, the cameras begin revealing paranormal activity see what I did there and Alex starts to worry about their safety. It all leads up to possessed Katie killing the mother and boyfriend while Alex is attacked in her house, runs across the street to find her dad who went over there for a reason i forgot and sees her dad drug away by Toby ? and later, possessed Katie appears, chases Alex out of the house. Outside, she finds an eerily creepy looking Wyatt and when she turns around, a mob of possessed women are walking towards her and then she turns around for the last time to be killed by possessed Katie. End. I found the plot to be more intriguing than the last 3 plots. Yes,it ties to 2 and 3,but the twist in the plot isn't revealed till halfway through and we have to sit around waiting for the aftermath in suspense. Very good writing and directing.Acting: Now, out of all the movies, this one had the worst acting. It wasn't bad,but it didn't par up to the other movie's acting. Alex was a decent character. But, she is blonde, so there might be some speculation that she was supposed to be a little "stupid" with the activity, but I think the character was smart, but not smart enough unlike Ali in the second one . For example, she doesn't seemed too worried until she almost dies in the garage great scene . She doesn't consider the danger until it's almost too late. Ben boyfriend was also good. Very likable character but like his girlfriend, danger is not on his priority list. He also provides GOOD comic relief, even though Toby does not like him. Parents, they were bland. In PA2, the parents had good personality. But in this one, they were kind of just there. Katie had, what, two, three lines? She was pretty useless until the very end. But her creepy, demonic state is terrifying to say the least. Lastly, the kids. Come on, they're kids. Do we really expect them to give Oscar worthy performances? I thought Robbie was extremely creepy and kind of an asshole for a kid. Wyatt was the innocent, scared kid who doesn't know what's going on now. They definitely foil each other and sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way. So all in all, good acting, but not as good as it should have been.Last Thoughts: Overall, great movie for the Halloween time of year. Good plot, especially the twist. Acting not so great, but it worked for the most part. I think I got caught up in the hype of the crowd, but I still enjoyed it. Definitely better than the first 2, but not as good as 3. I give it a 10 for being entertaining, having a good plot and for tying up some loose ends. There needs to be a 5th one don't shoot me to conclude the story entirely. I mean, a Latino spin-off? Really? It seems like a waste of time when we could just finish this series.10/10
Don't Listen To The Bad Reviews On This Movie, Its Worth It! (by ashleyvictoria91)
This movie was really good, it kept me on the edge of me seat and scared the crap out of me. It was just as good as the previous three in the series, if not better. I really don't understand why people are giving it such negative reviews but I really enjoyed it. I have seen all of the paranormal activities so far and I have thought they were all pretty neat. The way that they self film gives it a lot more of a realistic setting. In this particular movie Katie shows up a lot and we finally learn what happened to baby hunter, years ago. The whole thing will leave you shocked and wondering <more>
what is going to happen next. I think it is worth paying to go see but it would also be a good movie to watch at home on DVD once it is released with a few friends for a scary movie night.
If you've been following the story since the beginning, This is a must see. (by rbfclik4)
For the past 4 years or so, I've been an avid fan of the Paranormal Activity Series. I've always looked forward towards the next chapter in the series every October. The series in my opinion is the best kind of scary movies you will find in present day. It's different, It's not the same as lame movies with nothing but gore and dumb teenagers. It stands out cause it's unique and demonic possession is realistic. With that being said, Everyone is going to down the movies, and they always have cause it's not their "typical" scary movie. People often say "It <more>
wasn't scary at all" and "It's stupid." Paranormal Activity is scary. They all are. The scariest of the series is PA3 hands down. PA4 had a lot to compete with and it didn't live to exceed PA3's expectations. And that is why everyone is so down on #4 here. PA4 was less scary than other's from the series. It was hard to completely understand if this part of the story was relevant to the story of the series or not. There were a quantity of parts throughout the movie where you will certainly jump or your heart will race, The Garage Scene, The Knife Scene, The Bath Scene. And it all leads up to the end of the movie, which is the scariest part and will go down always as one of the most scariest scenes in the series. It was that good. But then the movie just ends, right on the most epic scene. And that has frustrated many viewers. The activity you were most looking forward to happens all at the end. In a recent interview with MTV, the Directors say that they, "Held back and put resistance onto the 4th one" They said that "Almost all scary movies give away everything all at once, but they wanted to be different and give away a little at a time" Their intentions were not to live up to PA3 but to continue the story, PA2-PA4 opened up a door to a whole new variety of possibilities for the future of the series. My conclusion is I RECOMMEND this movie. Honestly it is worth watching cause it's a little under intense. If you're expecting a PA3 then this isn't gonna live up to your expectations, It's another chapter in the story that's gonna expand and make the next part super good. But this is MUST SEE if you have followed the series, It's gonna continue the story going forward. And while Paranormal Activity 5 is ALREADY announced and in the pre-production, I recommend Paranormal Activity 4, to get ready for Paranormal Activity 5 so you can fully understand the next movie. I think Paranormal Activity 5 is gonna be as crazy and intense as the 3rd. Don't listen to the rating, GO SEE THE MOVIE! ** I gave this in reality a 7.5/10, but I voted 10/10 to help the average of the score. It's definitely not a 4.7 of a movie.
Loved it!! pa4 is the best one yet!! (by jprebble11)
I absolutely loved the 4th and i think final part which i hope it is not the build up was slow but that made the epic finale very good! i went into this movie with seeing all the others before, i loved part 1 loved part 2 and absolutely loved part 3 as it went back in time number 4 added that little bit of oopmh to finish the series in a good way.I'm not going to tell you anything about the movie or give anything away, but be assured if you loved the first 3 parts you will love this part!! "find out what really happened" : be prepared to be shocked and scared!! the last 20 <more>
minutes is truly terrifying, a good way to end the series. and don't forget to keep a look out for "katie" i hope my review helped. i am 15 years old and i highly recommend this movie too "teenage horror movie lovers" :
"it is what it is' said the usher... (by marymorrissey)
and many of the negative reviews seem to want PA4 to be something other than it is. what's fun about this franchise for me is the limitations and how in each film they work within a pretty narrow range of possibilities. my least favorite thing about these movies is the characters, and in each successive film they become even more annoying running at the mouth suburban hipsters yet all of that serves to make it so that you can hardly wait for them to get it from the demon princess, anything to shut them up. "Whoa! Awesome!" is about as far as they seem able to process anything <more>
that goes on around them no matter how frightening. I really liked how the blonde girl's character is shown to be so weak whenever tested. she tears off in a panic when a pretty nonthreatening middle-aged coven lady asks, "Excuse me, can I help you?" yet she doesn't even lock her door at night when she knows the spooky boy who was pretty great has been climbing into her bed at night and "copping a feel" in the words of the #1 annoying character in the movie, the unbearable boyfriend. still this movie had some standout moments of stupidity that were pretty unforgivable. the very worst: when dad is confronted with a forcefully thrown knife in the kitchen in the middle of the night but is put off communicating to the wife what has just happened cause she dismisses him, "do you have any idea what time it is? come on, get into bed!" and the ending was terribly abrupt, a 2 second shot of a bunch of witchy extras closing in then Katie lurching with pointy teeth. kind of lame...found it amusing that at times the movie seemed to hold on to the conceit that all we see is the result of home video shooting by a fingernail, the rule very nearly violated at times. stepping outside for a minute one realizes that whatever the actual budget, this movie might have been shot for heck under $3000. in that respect one has to take off one's hat eh? no question. anyway I agree that the first one was the best. the first one was more than anything about a man and a woman and their relationship, their power dynamics at home, for the most part. the demon story is well told but the substance of the movie is mainly the interaction between this couple.in the end anyway I admire them for being able to keep this thing going up to the standard that they have, without much reservation. it's no mean feat!
Paranormal Activity 4 GREAT FILM! (by JoeAshleyGough)
Hey Guys, I just made an IMDb Account and just thought that I would comment on the Paranormal Activity 4 film. Me and my friend saw this film on the front row at the cinemas about a week or so after it came out, and hands down I can easily say that it was simply, the greatest horror movies of all time. Genuine scary/jumpy film. After getting out of the cinemas at the end of this film for a first I was actually shaking and feeling generally, scared . Personally, I would call that a success! Overall, Great job directors keep it up, make sure that we are just as astonished with number 5 :
Everyone's a critic (by cblackburn94)
After having read countless reviews slandering this film and branding it as "a waste of time and money" and a film created solely for monetary reasons, I went to the cinema with very low expectations. However, after watching this film I am starting to think that people are just bitter. There were more than just a few scares, with excellent new methods of filming technology incorporated with the suspense and jumpy moments of which this franchise has built its name upon. I would recommend this movie to anyone a thousand times over, well worth the money! I do not usually review films <more>
on here, but the amount of negativity this film unjustly received angered me and I wanted to say that this film is an excellent progression for the franchise, leaving plenty of options open for new plot lines to come in the very near future.
I was petrified and I am a dead set fan of the previous three. There are about 6 or 7 shocks in this and just like the previous installments they mostly come unexpected. Things happen either quick or in the background. If you have seen the trailer or teaser to part 4, you know what to expect. The focus is on teenager Alex, a 15 year old who uses her laptop a lot. It records, it connects to her boyfriend and it records things, thats all I'll say. This one picks up 5 years after part 2, so possessed Katie and the stolen baby Hunter now live across the road from Alex. There goes the <more>
neighborhood. Try and see Paranormal 4 before anyone tells you it's thrills. I was in a paralysis of fear in the finale.
I just got home from watching this movie and so far I think it's one of the best made. The new characters made it awesome and the plot twist is great. I like it just as much as the first one and its easier to understand than the third one. I cant wait to know if they will be a fifth movie because they are still so much things that need to be revealed.Overall a great movie, Scarier than the past ones, great plot,Cons : The ending was a little rough, and rushed but so far they always ended their movies the same way so it wasn't a surprise.Great Halloween movie if your a fan of <more>
